Pro Tools is basically divided into two, namely DSP-based cards and Native. All sorts of manipulation in the editing and mixing audio using computing digital numbers. Pro Tools system on Native, computing is done on the processor of the computer in question, whereas in Pro Tools-based DSP card, computing done on a special chip, which is deliberately made in the digital music computing. Analogy is similar to the world of gaming, the gaming world, to play a tough game, we need a VGA card for a reliable, whereas for playing simple games, VGA on board, of course, have been sufficient. The conclusion is that DSB Pro Tools based more capable of doing heavier work than the native
Pro Tools DSP-based
Pro Tools types in this category is a Pro Tools TDM (Time Division Multiplexing), but this version has now evolved into Pro Tools HD. All kinds of audio processing in the system is mostly done in the DSP chip that accompanies it. This means that when we buy an HD system we obtain DSP-based hardware and software Pro Tools HD. Architecture plugins used were different, because the plug-ins that are used will have direct access to the DSP chip that accompanies this Pro Tools HD.
Pro Tools Native
In this category are pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered. Both systems are actually the same, has a slightly different history. Formerly Pro Tools can only run on hardware that is in production DigiDesign, among others, Digi 002, 003, mbox mbox 1 and 2. over time, DigiDesign acquired another company called M-Audio (Formerly midiman) is now Pro Tools software is also able to walk on Hardware M-Audio, but only marked M-Powered.
Note that the hardware that came with Pro Tools LE only serve as AD / DA Converter course, in which there is no chip that functions to assist DSP calculations.
Pro Tools LE and M-Powered using a plug-in which to access the resources of our computer processor. Thus the higher the specification of our computers, then the number of effects and tracks that can be processed will be more and more also. Effects such as Reverb usually to consume most of CPU power compared to other effects. This is what should be the focus of Pro Tools LE users.
For those of you who enjoyed musisis digitally recording the digital world, pro Tools LE is enough for us who want to learn Pro Tools. Interface software and facilities in which most of the same with Pro Tools HD. So once you use the LE smoothly, you will be able to apply these sciences in HD, though certainly not as simple as that.
AIR (Advanced Instrument Research)
Besides the acquisition of M-Audio, DigiDesign working with a German company called Wizoo. For those of you who enjoyed the digital music world certainly familiar with the plugin made by Wizoo, among others. virtual Guitaris and Wizoo Verb (an effects-based reverb convolution).
DigiDesign and then proclaimed the birth Wizoo AIR (Advanced Instrument Research) where AIR will produce effects and virtual instruments for Pro Tools, this is the consideration of the avid business strategy group. One example of a virtual instrument is DigiDesign AIR Transfuser.
