Who Is The Best Business Broadband Provider?
This question is often asked by IT staff to a particular business. . . . but what they really mean is, “Who is the best business broadband provider …. for me?” Even more specific. . . “Who can tell me exactly what I do. …. Where Do I need it to do …. what I do with my data / voice network have?”
If you ever get it yourself (or perhaps demand). . . . . Read on for you to be in a better position to ask the question in a meaningful way and get an answer that most businesses makes sense for your specific situation.
The most important thing. . . . . In order to receive a full and rewarding response. . . Is there really needs to get more information to be provided which better describes exactly what your requirements.
What is the exact location or locations? What is your budget? What applications you need your network support (voice, data, multimedia, video conferencing, number of users, one or more locations – individual buildings or a campus, etc.). What is your current use? What is your forecast of the future use? What have you now (T1, DS3, etherent, etc.)? What is your current availability, latency, QoS and SLA? Who’s your current provider? Are you currently have a contract and when it is expired?
Do not focus solely on speed. . . or price is not. You must also consider availability, latency, packet forwarding, and other topics. Both in the analysis of your current “state”. . . . and estimate your future to “grow”.
First start of applications that are wondering, you run the link need. People do not buy nets, they buy access to the applications.
Then you need to look forward to the expected usage of the link. The profile of applications is also important – they are forced to latency? If they are bandwidth hogs? Is it sporadic access or sustainable? Are you bringing the Internet via the link?
How far apart are your pages (with a Multi-site) to install it? Will the latency? If the latency is a problem there?
You have to look, you can search. Maybe all you can get a T1.
Depending on the answers above, you may also need to avoid looking at WAN acceleration, Citrix, or other such technologies operating limits. Some applications just do not work well if they are separated from their users by more than a few milliseconds.
That said. . . . I would first lean on a T1; probably integrated (voice and data). But that will depend on the number of users and load (video conferencing, large multi-media file sharing, etc.) and so on. You might need to bonded T1 or DS3 (T3) to go bandwidth, if your load / usage high. If available, one option is Ethernet, at least from a cost-benefit considerations.
As with a provider. . . . Shop around. Remember that location is key when buying broadband. Use a consultant who speak the language and negotiate for you. If you do this yourself would get frustrated, spending much time and effort, and probably still are not spoken in something you really need. . . at a cost more than you should pay. If you want free help with this. . . . I recommend the free services Bandwidth Solutions.
